Quick, light read. I enjoyed it.

I picked this one up because I like the author. And this book was fun. And on theme for October.

Jane is a senior at St. Teresa's prep school. She is very smart and not too concerned with popularity. Her best friend is Allison. Ally is very concerned about everything and is incredibly awkward, but Jane prefers to see her as quirky. And then Allison starts acting strangely. Because she has sold her soul to the devil. And Jane is determined to save her.

Jane is a great main character. She's smart, confident and loyal. She's witty and understands what is important in life. She's willing to make sacrifices to do the right thing.

This one was just good devilish fun!

Loved this book, I never read anything quite like it before, featuring a girl making a deal with a representative of the devil to sell her soul, friend steps in, toes get cut off, etc etc. It's not like any ordinary girls in high school story.
A true case of Do Not Judge The Book By Its Cover.
Neither the ridiculous tagline ("What would you give to be popular?") nor the cover do the book any justice or are even remotely related to it. Maureen Johnson herself wrote about blatant sexism in the publishing industry in the Huffington Post earlier last week, catching the attention of the Guardian, BBC and the New Yorker among others - and this book is a real case of this prejudice.

The book started out very slow. I love Maureen Johnson on twitter and had read 13 little blue envelopes years ago, so I thought I would give it a shot. It was okay. The end was much better than the beginning and I enjoyed it, but the book wasn't anything special. I will still read her other books but hope they are a bit better than this one.

great characters, but i wasn't feeling the pacing of the plot. it was an incredibly fast read, but i kept wishing there was a little more of this or a little more of that.

This was an enjoyable piece of brain fluff. It wasn’t at all realistic - but it was the second book that helped yank me out of my reading slump. It was also the first book written solely by Maureen Johnson that I’ve read, and despite being literally unbelievable, it was definitely worth the read.

However, when I say it was unbelievable, I was still able to be sucked into the story. I was just aware that it was more brain candy than it was a serious fantasy epic. Not sure if that clarifies anything, but hey, I tried.

Would recommend but probably not if you haven’t read anything else by Johnson or gotten a taste of her writing elsewhere. Or maybe this would be a good first taste, to see how thoroughly she may be able to win you over in a fun, devilish ride.

although this was an interesting idea, I just couldn't get past how many ridiculous situations and things that happened at the school - things that were just too far out there to be believable.

add that to a disjointed and odd story line that seemed to jump all over and introduce people, situations and conversations that had no point to the plot.

also, I didn't find any character particularly interesting or even nice. I think Jane set up a lot of her life to be unlikable and yet, she was supposed to be friends with everyone....it was just odd and not my kind of story.

Such a fun underrated title from my YA queen. They should make this into a movie.

It wasn't as humorous as I thought it was going to be.
