I couldn't put this one down! The two narratives are flawlessly blended together. It's an emotionally moving story.

Seemed a lot like misery open to me. I found a lot of things to be contrived and unrealistic. I am grateful that I read it before giving it as a gift to the person I had intended to.

this book was on track for a 5 star review until the last 50 pages and after THAT ending, it is lucky it doesn't get a 1 star review. Seriously, I am pissed off. I literally said as I turned a chapter "If Duchy dies on the next page I'm throwing this book out the window" because it was so obvious that was what was going to happen, and that is such a stupid cliche "here's pearl harbor, now the love of your life is going to die." Like, you could see it happening, and you knew what was going to happen, but there were only 40 pages left of the book, so you keep reading. And like it was such a pointless death and so cliche. The first 300 pages of this book were great, though, so if you don't mind a random pointless death at the end, go for it. But I am beyond annoyed with this book.
