Although this was a full novel, it felt like one of Christie's Poirot short stories. He didn't come in until about halfway through the story, which I don't mind, but he did one of his armchair detective moves and solved the whole thing from his apartment. I prefer to see him and his moustaches interacting with suspects.

The intro and middle of this made for brilliant reading (the setup was suitably ominous, and the ensuing interrogation of the neighbors was fun), but the double-layered ending lost me a little bit. It was the 60's, so I guess there had to be some Red Scare in there but it didn't fit that well with the main plot.
I did figure out who the likely culprit was, but not why.
