More an... extended long-form magazine article
This book is an 90-odd page thesis on the development to hero's in literature. It starts looking at how our long-term ancestors lived, and their hero's (more factually driven, less imaginative), and brings through 400,000 generations, to today.
It's an easy read, and isn't backed up with a huge amount of scientific data (why would it, it's not that sort of book), but I enjoyed it all the same. It's not Shakespeare, but I rather feel most scientists wouldn't go far with this approach, if they looked to this book, when it comes to science writing, and extending Science knowledge in the General population.

Super fast read I got through my audio version in about 40 minutes. It was exactly what I thought it would be although there was a little bit less about Jack Reacher than I had anticipated, taking a larger view of literary heroes broadly instead of specifically.

This was boring until it was gross. The latest hypothetical scenario was about reality not permitting what fantasy does, e.g. the author happening upon a "supernaturally stunning nineteen year old" and enjoying a beautiful weekend together. Yuck yuck yuck.
