the Dodgeball part is pretty stupid and not a good premiss to hinge the story on.

The best graphic novel about politics and dodgeball post-nuclear fallout I’ve ever read.

This comic was just plain fun. I love a good game of dodgeball and this was like the ultimate game. If that game was played for the future autonomy of your community that is. I liked the artwork and the characters were interesting. Just all around a good time.

(revjewed for an ARC received through NetGalley)

Great artwork with soft, pastel-ish coloring and skilled perspectives. The stories revolve around a post-apocalyptic land with small, isolated communities dealing with a more powerful one, intent on dominating the smaller ones. The turn toward a more straightforward sports theme for the last 3rd of the story is surprising and a little hard to comprehend, but at least the artwork stays good throughout the book.

Thanks to the #NetGalley for letting me read and review this one!

I can safely say that I love the cover. The futuristic feeling and modern take on the cover design really made me curious about the graphic novel itself.
The story takes place in a post-apocalyptic world where you either follow "the bad guys" or fight against them in a game known as Celestial Mechanics.
I really enjoyed the characters and the world building, together with the representation and atmosphere but the thing that I liked less was definitely the style of the drawings. I guess it was just not really my style with the green and brown colors and I caught myself not paying attention few times because of that. Would absolutely recommend it to all the fans of The Hunger Games as it reminded me of it a lot!

There was a point about 30% through I considered dnfing it, not because it was bad, but because I wasn’t super invested. Then, as soon as the game began—post apocalyptic dodgeball anyone—it really picked up! I thought the diversity was great. The different use of texts and panels was creative.

Not sure I’d pick up more by the author though. There was an opportunity to achieve real depth with the conflict of one country trying to come into another and now they have to fight for their freedom. Yet the book aimed for a more shallow, action-packed story and left behind the deeper potential. This might be what some people want, but that made it less memorable or impactful for me.

Thank you to Netgalley and Europe Comics for the ARC!
