The story follows a little girl who leaves Cuba in late 1959 to come to New York. Set during the time that Castro had just come into power and provides some information about the state of Cuba at the time as well as what it was like to be an immigrant and unable to speak English and unfamiliar with the new place. Based on Colon's on personal story, this is a simple introduction to an important time in Cuba's history. Could be used as a first book laddering up to books such as [b:Countdown|7192385|Countdown|Deborah Wiles|http://photo.goodreads.com/books/1301703375s/7192385.jpg|7776967] or [b:The Red Umbrella|6768377|The Red Umbrella|Christina Gonzalez|http://photo.goodreads.com/books/1259599097s/6768377.jpg|6967570].
