Catch your Death is Child’s best work so far in the Ruby Redfort series. The characters are becoming more complex, with Child taking a step back from stereotypes to develop the meat of the characters more, and every tiny set-up is given a satisfying pay-off whether you recognised it as a set-up at the time or not. The blending of truth with fiction is effective at increasing the stakes of the storyline.

I absolutely ADORE what Child has done with the  Ruby and Clancy in this book - I think it’s fair to say that the latter is almost as much of a main point of interest as the former, and being able to see tension in their friendship is interesting and relatable. We all need a little more Clancy Crew in our lives.

it dragged so much and is definitely the weakest one so far but it was still fun

I love this book series, even though I’m rereading it while I’m older (I like to get nostalgic). However, this volume lacks a little something. The first and second books of the series have more action and a better storyline. Still, I highly appreciate the little riddles and the witty and clever main character.
Ps: I adore Hitch and Ruby

i will preface this by saying that I read this as a kid and it was one of favourite books, now that I'm older however I can see the flaws. now obviously this is a middle grade novel which isn't a genre I read much of anymore, so I will try to be fair, its not gonna be the same level of an adult or ya book.

so I found this one to have a lot slower of a start than the other two, however I still love the codes and vibe of the book. the puzzles and mystery in this book are what I loved as a kid and I still love it now.

but it still wasn't the best experience of my life. 3.25 stars is still good tho

not quite as fast-paced or perilous as its predecessors, but still a solid addition to the series

One of the weaker Ruby Redfort books in my opinion (it didn't grip me the same way as others have), but as this is a re-read for me, it was exciting to see the set-up for later books begin. It was still full of the tension and mystery and wittiness that all the Ruby Redfort books have (and all of Lauren Child's books as well), and full of the nostalgia that anyone who read the books as a child and is now re-reading it as an adult.

character development, the negative tension between Ruby and Clancy and yet how far they would go for each other, a manipulative villain, a well-written plot, what more could I ask for?

this might be by far my favourite book in the series. the plot mixed in with Ruby's character development was the best part of this: how Child connects the wild animals being set loose in Twinford to the perfume plotline. this was a really enjoyable read
