I love reading mysteries in the fall, and had the hood fortune of discovering this at the King's English independent bookstore in Salt lake City. more psychological than anything else but very compelling

A classic Simenon. There is a dead body and an investigation, but that is only a small part of the focus. The main story is the way the event makes the main character re-evaluate his life and the relationships around him. Expertly done, with brevity and nuance.

A quick, enjoyable read. Interesting to read a mystery novel not from the perspective of a detective but from the perspective of a drunk, reclusive, semi-retired lawyer who would rather not be dragged into all this, but is forced to actually acknowledge the real world exists after a murder occurs in his house. Easy to read.
