Lots of love to Laini, my new favorite author. The first book enchanted me and it took me a while to pick up the second one as I didn't want the story to end. I love the first book most but this one isn't bad either. I definitely recommend this series to anyone who enjoys fantasy with a cozy vibe but also draws tears.

This was an outstanding conclusion to the duology. It brought an appropriate ending (helps that it was a happy ending!) to a complex story in a unique fantasy world that was rich with defined and lovable characters. I really couldn’t put either volume down. Recommend! Edited: after several days, there are a few elements that really stuck with me. So I also need to add that the author did an extraordinary job depicting some complicated characters with varying degrees of mental illness. These were some of the most complex characters in the book, and I credit the author for representing them in such a compelling way.

Loved it. 4.5 stars. I got my happy ending tied up in a neat little bow that I was expecting with the first novel. The magical world-building continued in the sequel and the whole multi-dimensional fantastical realm was really fleshed out. We got to know the history of WHY THINGS WERE SO FUCKED UP and some of the less-likable characters had some huge personal growth moments. I'm living for this type of YA fantasy fiction right now. I think I must need a break from real life or something.

I don't understand how Laini Taylor manages to write this kind of magic. She must be Mersathim herself!!!
