It's an improvement on the previous books; it's the best of the three. Red Hands develops the Ben Walker series in interesting ways. Golden's blending of science and unexplainable threats is something I hope to read more of.

Walker is again back on another romp through a maybe supernatural maybe not adventure.
Honestly, I feel like you could read each of these books as a standalone because you don’t need a ton of back story to understand each book. Walker may be a main character but I feel like he’s there to create some cohesion and for world building rather than being a completely fleshed out main character. Nothing bad about that at all if it work, and while I’m not sure I loved it in the second book, I think it works here.
Some sort of contagion named Red Hands shows up in a small town and wreaks some major havoc during a Fourth of July parade. The aftermath of this is wheee Walker shows up and tries to hero his way through to the end. The story isn’t especially scary or filled with dread (such as with Ararat) but it is disturbing.

Would recommend. 3.5 rounded up.

Another solid entry in this growing series. I’m ashamed to admit it took me longer than I expected to pick up on the connections to my favorite Poe tale. I have a sneaking suspicions there’s quite a few Easter eggs to similar works about evil biohazards ;)

This reads just fine as a standalone despite being part of a series.

I like the general concept of the book, and found Maeve and Rose to be likeable. Overall, the characters seem to be relatively underdeveloped, and the story felt unnecessarily repetitive at times. It had an interesting ending, but the bulk of the book lacked momentum.

My least favorite of the Ben Walker series.
I think if it’s the only one you read, it’d be fun, but I liked the others much more.
I also have absolutely no sympathy for his choices with his son.
