In 2017, the International Centre for the Picture Book in Society coordinated with the International House of Art for Children in Bratislava to produce an exhibition to draw attention to the plight of children and families around the world who found themselves fleeing violence, poverty, and oppressive regimes in the hopes of finding safety. Half of the exhibition consisted of postcards featuring birds created by illustrators from around the world. This book contains some of those works of art.

I found the art lovely and also enjoyed the poetry that accompanied some of the postcards. As magnificent as the art was, I did get a bit tired of looking at birds. The theme makes perfect sense, but I'm just not that into birds. It was lovely though and some of the pieces were quite breathtaking.

Migrations is composed of postcards sent by more than fifty picture book illustrators to the International Centre for the Picture Book in Society.

This beautiful book speaks to the "way that walls and bans are no match for bravery and hope."
