Nicole recommended this book to me because of the nesting Stumpy does in the very beginning. It ended up being a good book to read with a new baby at our house. I think it's a good advanced third grade book.

I had not read the first book in the series but the initial chapter fills in readers with enough information to read this book. Gooseberry Park and the Master Plan starts a bit slow but it does pick up and has a happy ending for all of the characters who live in and around Gooseberry Park.

Themes: teamwork, collaboration, responsibility to community, friendship,

Loved it even more than the original. So sweet and funny and gave rise to some serious conversations with my sons. Simplest wonderful!

Kona, Gwendolyn, Stumpy, and Murray are back in this new adventure taking place one year after the original Gooseberry Park. They are once again working together to solve a problem, with the help of some new friends. There is a drought that has been going on for a while and they must find a way to bring water to the animals in the park. A bit preachy at times, fans of the first book will still enjoy it. Kindergarten and up.

I read this book many times over the course of my childhood and it's stayed with me as a lovely, warm memory my whole life. Unfortunately, I'd forgotten the title of this book and was unable to find it for ages. So pleased to be able to point at it now and say, yes, that book, that book was wonderful!

I'm not totally sure what I found so appealing about it, especially considering I often can't get into talking animal/pet stories (this book joins such other notable exceptions like Narnia and Redwall). I can only think back on the experiences reading (and re-reading them), finding such pleasure in the company of the sweet, unassuming characters and the casually immersive story.

Charming and delightful! Will have to give it another go as an adult sometime.
