The ending was obvious to me around page 30 and it was excessively sappy, but I enjoyed the characters nonetheless.

I read this book after reading 'The Captive Maiden'. I was really expecting more from it, but I did enjoy it.
The characters in this book were ok. I really liked Rose's independence, and adventurous nature. And I loved that she was a writer too. I found Wilhelm to be too perfect, and a little proud. I really disliked his brother, and I thought Rose trusted him far too much.
I wished it had talked more about Rose's father, the woodcutter and how they came about to get her. I thought he seemed like a more gentle one, compared to her mother.
The suspenseful scenes in this book were great! I found the magician guy to be a little weird, as was that whole part of the story but it was for sure better than what was in the original story of sleeping beauty.
and that was the biggest downfall to the book. But the style of writing was great, and the characters were interesting. I just wish that it wasn't the main focus of the book. I wish it would've been more of the side plot, but I do understand that is a big part of fairy-tales so it had to be written in a way that loosely followed that.
Overall I rate this book 3/5

It wasn't a bad book. The plot was predictable in my opinion. I almost DNF this book due to that. I want to love it but the story felt rushed in some places and slow in other.

This book would’ve received a higher rating if the description matched the book. The official description claimed that this is a Sleeping Beauty retelling.... unfortunately this is NOT a Sleeping Beauty retelling.
This is simply a clean-romance Christian historical fiction novel.

Ugh. Just... Ugh. I'm not sure where this one derailed. It might have been the overbearing amount of Jesus in this novel. It might have been how utterly predictable it was. It might have been how mind numbingly slow it was....
Regardless, I figured out the entire plotline by about 25% through, and the ACTUAL CHARACTERS figured it out about 45% through. So we had over half of the novel left to hash out completely useless inane conversation. And then we got to actual demons. Yes, really.

This book had its moments. It was a bit predictable in that I knew the ending of the plot once I heard the initial mystery. I liked the main character and her love interest, and I enjoyed their story as it unfolded. A little more intrigue would have made this a really great story.
