TW~ drugs, assault, rape, abuse

Carrie is hiding from her past. She stands out and speaks her mind. She is protective and caring. Dash is spoiled. With issues. Carrie’s had a crush on him since forever and Dash doesn’t see her till she scolds him but once he sees her she’s all he CAN SEE.

Carrie is a sweetheart and it sad how her she was left to defend herself as a child. Dash has a large heart and he’s grown a lot.

I enjoyed Carrie and Dash’s sweet moments where they talked about the stars and the piano. I liked seeing Carrie open up and stop hiding and running away. It was nice to see Dash stand up and make his own decisions. The ending did feel a tad bit underwhelming but I enjoyed it nonetheless.

3.5 stars for Lord Dashiell Lovett "The Sun God" & Carina "Stellaluna" Mendoza!

"What if I don't want to be the moon? The sun and the moon are always chasing each other across the sky never being able to catch up with one another"

"It's okay Stella. We'll be a permanent eclipse. That way we'll always be together."

First things first, I absolutely adored [b:Riot House|51976550|Riot House (Crooked Sinners, #1)|Callie Hart|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1588166152l/51976550._SX50_.jpg|76631504], Wren and Elodie's story was a 5 star read, not just because of them but also from the Dash & Carina crumbs we got served, so when I say I was ECSTATIC for this story I meant it.

The first half of the book was totally mesmerizing, in fact, I almost felt it would've been better had Callie released this book first as we learned a lot more about the Riot House boys, from their deep bond, the way they plan everything out together, and to the mystery behind each boys persona.

This book made me understand the boys a lot better than the 1st one in the series and flowed a lot better, but the second half really disappointed me as a lot of the action in the book was basically everything that happened in the 1st book but with a different perspective, that did offer extra background information, but still made me feel as if I was re-reading book one again.

I wanted more Dash and Carrie scenes because if you think about it they only spend 2 months together as an actual couple, and then to give us that ending that sort of leaves us with even more questions (I mean I know she's releasing an extended epilogue, but that doesn't come out until the 3rd of Jan and there will obviously be Pax’s book), but it just made the ending of the book totally anti-climactic since we know the events that have already occurred. I just needed more scenes of them working through their relationship together, the whole Alderman thing was weird as well, we still don't know exactly what he does it just wasn't explored much.

However, there were so many swoony moments, fun banter from the guys, learning more about Carrie's history (even if it has certain similarities with Elodie's history, what is with every author giving their female characters a dark past with sexual abuse???) and delving into Dash's mind and reasonings behind his assholey actions.

The book had all the makings to be a 5 star but in the end, it was too long, with not enough Carrie and Dash relationship moments (just them fucking and looking at stars, as romantic as is it is not enough), too much focus on Wren and his drama with Fitz, and an unsatisfying ending

edit : i had so much expectations for this book and carriedash and that’s why i ended up being disappointed by some elements. after rereading it i’d give it more of a 3.5stars, maybe 3.75. it IS a good book but i expected more, and wanted to see more of them reuniting after the even that had already taken place in the previous book, but instead their story had basically already happened and what they needed was to get back together, which happened on the very last page

PLEASE DO NOT DECIDE WHETHER OR NOT TO READ THIS BOOK BASED ON MY WORDS- i just need to write down my thoughts to remember why i gave this book 3 stars next time i want to read it. fortunately there is no way to turn it private or i would.
this books is still worth it, the characters are worth well above 3 stars, i was only disappointed by the plot

:

i don’t know what i was expecting riot rules to be like, but certainly not what it turned out to be

it feels like ch had this intriguing plot for those characters but nothing to back it up? so as she was writing the book she changed some things up to make it different

and then she spent 2/3 of the book focusing on their (changed) past only and i got bored and annoyed

but ofc the scene in which carrie tells elodie about her past relationship with dash didn’t fit this new narrative yet had to be included so it turned in a ‘carina lied’ situation yet there was no confrontation about why? okay

and then everything else is a lie as well, not that it’s surprising. dash only pretended to cheat, carina lied about sleeping with andre ...

Riot Rules is a girthy book, but every page is vital to the story and every page is SO worth it!!

Winding through two years worth of story at Wolf Hall we get to witness the ups and downs of several characters through this timeline while still keeping the heart of the story between Dash and Carrie. Trust me when I say you are going to fall deeply in love with Lord Dashiell, and weep for everything that is Carina.

With the length of this book it's hard to summarize everything that is completely and totally amazing about this book, but one of the best parts I love is how it weaves in and out between the timeline of Riot House. Riot Rules begins well before Elodie ever walks the halls of Wolf Hall and yet this book also ends after Wren and Elodie have their love story. Callie was brilliant in her writing to fit Riot Rules uniquely around that timeline and still gave us a fresh new love story that fit Dash and Carrie on both sides of Riot House along the way.

Dash and Carrie both made my heart soar and plummet to the ground multiple times as I was reading. Doomed lovers, they would appear, from the very beginning. Lord Dashiell is a titled Englishman afterall, only attending school in America after embarrassing his father - in other words, he's been banished. He is still supposed to return to England and assume his rightful place as a Duke, given he meets his father's expectations, which wouldn't mean dating a common place girl. He knows better than to get close to Carrie, for more reasons than just his duty, but try telling that to him whenever she comes close. His brain short circuits, along with other body parts. So is there any harm in just taking a small taste, just this once. Get his infatuation out of his system? He will leave America at some point and his time at Wolf Hall will all be a distant memory, he might as well make the most of it.

Carrie is so far beneath common, she is living a lie. A lie she has become so ingrained telling that she has almost forgotten her real name, not that she'd ever want to return to the filth and squalor she came from, but she needs those lies to save herself from something more dangerous and telling the truth isn't an option for her. No matter what her body may want, a sinful foreign boy whom she can't seem to stay away from, her mind knows better. He can never know the truth about her and that is the harsh reality she knows she must face, but until then, she'll listen to her body. Make the most of the time she has left, what's the harm in enjoying life?

Trying to contain a lie, a secret, something that should flourish, is never a good idea, especially at Wolf Hall. It always gets out and when it does, it explodes. Dash and Carrie's romance is a fever that will ignite in your heart and explode through your system. These two will have your heart beating faster and your mind screaming over how to make their love work. Afterall, we know of another titled Englishman and commoner who wed not so long ago.

While there are timelines that coincide and made me giddy, this book also reads as a complete standalone. Although if you haven't read Riot House yet, I would recommend reading it first just because Riot Rules will give away some of the Ah Ha moments and might spoil those for you, other than that, get ready for an amazing read in Riot Rules. You will not be able to put this book down.

Riot Rules is SO GOOD!!

Riot HOUSE was my first Callie Hart book, and while waiting for Riot Rules I moved on to several of her other series - I was SO happy that in Riot Rules she included a tie in to characters from her other series!! Uggghhh I love the world's she has created so much!!

Riot Rules was seamlessly blended into Riot House. So much so, that even though this is technically book two in the series, I honestly feel readers could start here and not be thrown off by reading Riot House second. Dash and Carrie's story technically took place well before Wren and Elodie, but a large event overlapped both stories, and this allowed us a full view from multiple perspectives. Callie did an AMAZING job marrying these two books!

Dash, with that accent that I SWEAR I could hear, slid right to the top as my favorite Riot House boy! I adored his and Carrie's relationship as it unfolded, and was absolutely gutted by the turn it took!
Carrie is one of my new favorite Hart characters, and her love for astronomy sprinkled throughout this book was not only a beautiful addition to her character, but within the book itself.

Solid 5 stars from me. Highly recommend! I CAN'T WAIT for Pax's story!!
