Started off rather slow, but it picked up after the first hundred pages or so. Anyways
Gideon Nav is the best character I’ve read this year. 4.5 stars rounded up to 5

This was an awful reading experience for me. A pure vibes book, you are just tagging along on what feels like the third book of the trilogy. There is no basic worldbuilding, you are just fumbling along following a non-sensical plot with characters dropping dead like flies. To me, it didn't earn the emotional scenes because there are TOO MANY characters, too many technical words that mean nothing to me, too many "but that's impossible!" (I wouldn't know, there's no set-up for what IS possible).
The only thing I liked was some of the comedy dialogues, Gideon made me chuckle sometimes. Anything else was just a miss for me. The fantastical jargon was headache-inducing, and the writing did not help it. I read some spoilers of the second book to see if it caught my attention (because the ending/climax sucked), and no... I'm not interested in being even more confused in the second book.
I can understand why people like this book, it has amazing potential, and it can feel rewarding to keep reading all the mess and get to the interesting plot twists. I just don't think it's worth it for me.

This book makes no sense and is so good that I took my paperback in the shower with me. No comment

I'm very glad I held on through the first hundred pages or so. It started off really slow, but as act two started I was invested. At times I wasn't sure Muir's writing was my style and wished she would pick a tone and stick with it, but the characters kept me anchored. Sometimes things were a bit confusing to follow and I did have to refer to the house listing at the beginning to keep the characters all straight, but overall this book made me feel a lot of things.
