While there are some issues with the politics and language in the books that sometimes really annoy me, I continue to be pleased by the quality of the military sci-fi, which is really why I am reading this series. Luckily, he backed away from the "these are giant sailing ships in space" bs that occasionally came up in the first book. The empathic space cat is even starting to bug me less.

The start of space opera a new!

David Webber has crafted a wholly believable character in Honor.
The series is fast paced and very engaging. Five out of five stars

From the awesome Honor Harrington series. This is the 7th or 8th time reading this? I can't remember because I've read it so many times before! Love this series.

If you liked the first one then you are going to like the second one. This is so much like reading the Hornblower or the Aubrey/Mauritin British Navy in the age of Napoleon series of novels. Here there is a nice plot about a couple of small planets out of the way both with rather extreme religious adherents of the same faith, and with the would-be Christian Fundamentalists, Honor's allies, in danger of attack from those more extreme than themselves.

Not deep or wonderful, but fun. Good summer or light reading.
