Super excited to see Maguire joining the Spider-Gwen team, but the opening volume suffers from being part of Crossover Madness. And, I mean, we just did an Inheritors arc not that long ago, and a Gwen-trapped-in-the-multiverse-with-no-way-to-get-home deal around the same time. The opening issues feel like such a rehash of "been there, done that."

A step up from the original Spider-Gwen run. This Gwen is much more consistent & engaging, the art is gorgeous, and the story flows smoothly instead of being jumpy and fragmented. There's still some references to Spider-Geddon but for the most part this is a good standalone read. The thematic elements were strong without being overwhelming (referencing the 'ghost' in Ghost-Spider and playing with the ramifications of crossing over dimensions).

This was good, but I can't recommend it unless you want to read the entire Spider-Geddon event. It just won't work as well. I did enjoy the time I spent with Gwen Stacy, though, and thought that the final issue of this bind-up was very emotionally well done, dealing with the fallout of the events in Spider-Geddon. Although my only previous exposure to Gwen was in Into the Spiderverse, I came away from this feeling I had a strong grasp of her character, and very much looking forward to reading more about her. I do wonder about this as a Hugo nomination, given that it doesn't stand alone very well, but I guess that's for the voters to decide.

This is kinda a mess?? Some of the art was really cool tho. I have a hard time believing that seanan wrote this doesn’t seem like them at all…

My daughter gave me this book because the writer is Seanan McGuire, one of my favorite writers. On the inside front and back covers is the recommendation to read 8 books before this one. Which I did. But the spider-verse is vast and there were a lot of references throughout this series I did not get.

This particular book was easy to follow even when I didn't know who a character was or how they fit into the story.

I would recommend this series to people more familiar with the spider-verse. I wouldn't recommend it as a stand-alone book, or as an entry into the world of graphic novels/comic books.

3.25 for me? I wish this volume had more of a story of its own as opposed to just being content relating to Spider Geddon

I love the development they've given to the Spider-Gwen character. It is a bit confusing if you haven't read any of the Spider-Verse comics though.

Newcomers, I recommend that you start with this guide to help you understand the character and her multiverse a little better.

I didn't realize I needed more backstory for this one! I will have to back track before I continue this series.
