Easy and entertaining to read. Sometimes I felt the writer was a bit too biased.

This is not a guide, and it definitely isn't for beginners. The book is over 300 pages full of different statistics listed into roughly thematic chapters, and the single statistical points are masked in complete sentences to make this look like a cohesive, readable book. I had decided to read this through, so I had to give myself one star for perseverance. The second star is for the final chapter, where Therborn even vaguely tries to make use of all the data he listed in the previous pages.

Opus käsittelee sosiologi Therbornin näkemystä siitä, miten nykyinen maailma on historian saatossa muodostunut ja esittää joitakin arvauksia siitä, mihin olemme ihmiskuntana menossa lähitulevaisuudessa. Kirja on ahdettu täyteen mitä erilaisimpia faktoja, jotka tuntuvat jopa sekavilta ja toisistaan irrallisilta. Aivan lopussa on onneksi koko kirjan yhteen punova tiivistyskatsaus, joka auttaa jäsentämään nämä suuret tietomassat yhteen. Teos on mielenkiintoinen ja opettavainen ja paikkailee parhaillaan monia aukkoja yleissivistyksessä. Kuitenkin kokonaisuus on jokseenkin kaoottinen, ja sanoisin, että tämä voi jättää aloittelijan hämilleen.
