J'ai été intriguée par ce livre dès que je suis tombée dessus, et j'avoue que ce concept de cadavre exquis version romance a rapidement suscité ma curiosité, du coup, je me suis empressée de me procurer ce livre pour voir de quoi il retournait.
Le risque avec ce concept où chaque chapitre est écrit par un auteur différent est de produire un ensemble décousu et fourre-tout. Est-ce le cas ici ? Hmmm eh bien je dois dire que oui. Il y a bel et bien un fil conducteur dans ce livre, mais pour moi l'ensemble manque de cohérence et de fluidité (mais bon au final, vu le concept, ça aurait pu être carrément pire) et vers le milieu du livre, ça part complètement en cacahuète ! Je pense que les auteurs ont quelque peu maudit leur copine qui a pondu ce rebondissement complètement WTF. Et quand je dis que ça part en cacahuète, imaginez un bon gros sac en toile de jute de 25 kilos hein !
C'est le genre de roman à lire au douzième degré, pour se marrer un bon coup, parce qu'au final, c'est un livre où on rit beaucoup, soit parce que les répliques sont amusantes, soit parce que les situations sont tellement absurdes qu'on ne peut que rire (et se demander jusqu'où les auteurs vont pousser leur délire). Pour le reste, oui le héros est sexy, romantique et mystérieux, je pense que son histoire avec Verity satisfera la majorité des lectrices, mais la psychologie des personnages est peu travaillée, et de toute manière, ce n'est pas le but de ce livre. L'idée des tweets est plutôt sympa (chaque chapitre se termine par une série de tweets échangés entre Verity et Hudson), et j'ai découvert après ma lecture que les auteurs ont poussé leur concept jusqu'au bout du bout, puisque les profils tweeter (et les tweets !) mentionnés dans le livre existent réellement, et poursuivent donc l'aventure 'en vrai'.
À lire pour se marrer, donc, et faire le plein de surprises et de rebondissements bizarres ! (Oh et aussi parce qu'il fallait caser la référence à Docteur Maboul, et rien que pour ça, le livre vaut des points !

This story is absolute rubbish.
Why does everyone love this so much?
We have a main character who is so judgemental and is as dim as a dying lightbulb.
We are smothered and bombarded with the, 'people with tattoes are surely criminals' stereotype. Really?!?
And the Twitter convos (major eyeroll!)
Did these two forget how to have face-to-face conversations? Did she not have friends to unload all her woes to? Does she not have an ounce of professionalism?
The storyline was pure trash and truly the dumbest thing I've read this year.

Quirky and fun. Really cute and original. Even the little details that were a little over the top and funny in a great way.
Thoroughly enjoyed this book.
Wasn’t sure if I would connect to the characters as it was written by multiple authors, alternating chapters. But it wasn’t an issue for me, it worked.

I had this stored away on my kindle, went somewhere without my book, clicked on this snappy little read and had no idea what was in store for me. Who knew it is a collab by so many authors writing a chapter each? In hindsight I don't think this impacted the storyline at all but I do have many many questions about the process!
Verity and Hudson (Tattoo) have a meet cute in a taxi, which Verity doesn't really think is all that cute because she thinks she is being carjacked or stolen. Because .... stereotypes. And the rest of the book is all about Hudson wooing Verity like she didn't expect someone with tattoos would. Kind of a bit insulting but this was overidden by the connection between these two to some extent.
There was a weird vibe with a storyline involving Verity's boss - which I could have done without. Surely she could have got another job, right?

Well... When one of your favourite authors (in this case J. M. Darhower) announces a new book, you put everything down the moment that book arrives on your kindle - or is that just me?
When I read the info about Felony Ever After, a book with chapters written by 13 different authors, I admit I was worried about story flow. I mean, all authors have their own individual voice and style, but I was determined to give it a go. Four or five hours later I was finished and emerged like I'd been sat in a dark room and it was blazing sunshine everywhere else.
This book is simply fantastic. If I hadn't known how many authors were involved, there's no way on earth I'd even have guessed. The story flow I was worried about was perfect and the narrative consistent throughout. There wasn't a moment that I had to stop reading because communication between all involved had failed in any way. Each author brings something to the story, but the entire thing is seamless and I was blown away.
The characters or Verity and Hudson are great (I want to #PoundHudson too btw) and felt very relateable. I often found myself wondering what I would do or how I'd react thoughout the story if I was placed in Verity's situation - which is something I love about reading. If the reader can relate to what is happening on some level, then, in my opinion, the book is a success.
Most of the book had me laughing out loud - particularly the Twitter posts, and the honour was well balanced with the rest of the story. I have to admit, the whole involvement of Larold Lay was brilliant, and definitely something I've never come across before. While some regular romance tropes appeared, nothing felt cliché and overdone.
I know the story's over with, but I kinda want more - I want to know more about hudson's previous live and what happened to Larold. Hup to ladies!

This is a standalone story, ONE story, I repeat in case reading all the author names threw you. I don't blame you. Normally a comglomeration of author names means an anthology of many stories. How could this possibly work? Thirteen people, one story? Don't let the idea of one story turn you away because Felony After After was brilliant!
The book begins with how the idea was pulled off. Thirteen authors who joined together to write one story. Think of it like the adult version of the telephone game. One author would write a chapter than pass the story off to the next author to continue the story who would then twist and warp the storyline in their own voice then pass it off to the next willing victim, I mean author and so on and so forth until the end of the story. Hopefully at the end of the game it still has some truth to the original story, right? I'm sure there was much more liquor involved during this process than an actual adult telephone game, er...I mean I'm sure they were very professional.
Seriously, this was a fun read.
You can tell the subtle differences in author voices, which I think adds to the unique flavor of the book. It enhances the layering of the overall story instead of being a distraction. I will admit there were author voices that stood out more to my liking more than others, but that didn't mean I like the story as a whole.
As for Felony Ever After, it is a must read. Verity Michaels meets Hudson Fenn when he steals her cab, literally. He hops into the drivers seat when her cabby is distracted and then proceeds to drive her to destination. Verity wonders if it's possible to fall for a felon or was he actually her white knight? Since Hudson now continues to pop up when she needs rescuing. Hudson keeps quite a few secrets which hold Verity back, but there is just something about a white knight who is walking the line of a tad dangerous. Hold on for a crazy ride when you dive into Felony Ever After.
