The start was a bit slow, I think the timing was off considering what I was reading at the time so l put it off during at 33%. I needed a palette cleanser from all the romance and this book had just the right amount of action plus relationships angst. Despite them being 13 year olds, they are not that annoying. The characters are a hit or miss, with me not caring for a lot of them and not even for the protagonists most of the time. I appreciate the humor, the egyptian lore, the ambience and the pacing. After I picked it up I was not able to put it down and I kept thinking about what could happen next even though it was pretty obvious. There's very little, if any, romance.
Originally I was put off by it because of the age and needing a break from the romance in general, but it's not that integral to the plot I feel like. I'm still confused about the egyptian lore, tbh, I felt I was getting it but their genealogy is so messed up. I'm happy I gave a chance to this series, I'm loving immersing myself into the riordanverse. I like how mission-centered they are, they are able to focus on the matter at hand most of the time and I appreciate it.

The strength of these books continues to be the relationship between the Kane Siblings. This book set up some really neat threads that I'm excited to follow through into the conclusion.

Middle Grade Fantasy/Mythology

Book 2 in a fast paced series full of Egyptian mythology. Lots of action and small interesting tidbits about Egyptian history.

The Kane siblings race to release Ra and evade the people that are trying to stop them.
