I honestly don’t know why I waited this long before starting this series. It is just so good, so fun and so entertaining. I flew through The Throne of Fire and now that I am familiar with the universe and the characters of this series I had no trouble getting into the story.

Compared to The Red Pyramid, I found the pace to be quicker mostly because now there’s less of a need to explain everything. But even though a lot of the mythology has been explained in the first book, I still felt like a learned a lot while reading this second one. I knew nothing of Egyptian mythology before reading this series, and I can honestly say I am absolutely fascinated now.

As always with Riordan, I enjoyed the plot which was entertaining and thrilling. And, although some plot points were predictable I was mostly clueless about what would happen. I enjoyed the plot of this second book more that the first one, probably because of the “treasure hunt” aspect that had the character traveling the globe.

Whereas the first book focused on Carter a lot, in this one Sadie is central and I loved it. Both of them are great characters, but I especially adore Sadie. She is sassy and brave and she feels so real. The only problem I have with her is one I already had in book one: she doesn’t feel like a 13 years old. She and Carter are so mature I just don’t buy it.

« Nothing is obvious with boys. For such simple creatures, they are quite baffling. »

Overall I had a great time reading The Throne of Fire and I am excited to finish this series soon. Although I admit I don’t know what I’ll do once I have read all of Rick Riordan books.

My rating: 4.5/5
