I loved this historical romance. The characters were well developed and the plot was irresistible. I couldn't put this book down and wound up finishing it in 2 days. She is fast becoming one of my favorite authors!

This was everything I needed!
The only reason it’s not 4 stars is that I know the next books in the series will be even better and I need to somehow remind myself years later which ones were the best.

Re-read
I read this series more than 10 years ago and it still holds up. I can see why this is one of my favorite historical romances.

Apart from Bridgerton, I don't read a lot of romance novels. I was initially hesitant about reading this book because of its theme of a woman becoming a mistress, but I decided to give this book a chance.

After reading a few chapters, I realized that the term "mistress" in this context did not mean involvement with a married man, but rather a prostitute, with married or unmarried man. The plot itself was unappealing from the start, so I had low expectations. The characters, particularly Annabelle's shallowness and Simon's unsettling stalker-like traits, failed to resonate with me. My lack of connection to the characters and story continued throughout, but I must say that the book's good writing allowed me to finish reading the whole book.

I am surprised at how many positive reviews this book has received. I personally don't recommend this book, but you're welcome to form your own opinion if you choose to read it.

I was immediately drawn into Annabelle’s struggle to secure a husband amidst financial ruin, feeling every bit of her emotional intensity. Simon Hunt's charismatic and determined nature added a captivating dynamic that kept me hooked. The camaraderie among the Wallflower friends was delightful, providing a refreshing layer of support and humor to the story.

🎧 I do recommend the audiobook!
