I was given this book, from the publisher in exchange for an honest review.

If you’re a fan of Wrong Turn, Midsommar and The Ritual, you’ll love this book. From a literal chance meeting, to a wrong turn this leads the lost protagonists into a hell scape with creepy cults, and hellish entities. One thing I liked was the way this cult manifests. From sending creepy Messages to other things I won’t mention. This book has it all and if you like cult / niche horror this one is a for sure add to shelf. I give this one 5 out of 5 stars.

Thank you Matt and Michael for the awesome book!

A group of friends set off on a road trip to a secluded rental home where they expect to enjoy a vacation of skiing and partying. Sounds like a good time, right? Except the trip itself is a little freaky before they even reach their destination. At first I thought this was going to be one of those more tame and subtle horror stories with some mild spine tingly moments. (Not that there's anything wrong with that!) In fact I was so immersed in the characters and enjoying the dynamics between the friends, and the backstory of the main character Heath, that the horror aspect seemed secondary until all of a sudden it kicked in full force. I'm a sucker for small town horror where the locals keep dark secrets and outsiders don't escape unscathed, but there's more than mere mortals to fear in that desolate home in unincorporated Mouth of Sheol. Do you know what Mouth of Sheol means? you'll find out.
This is Matt Starr's first horror novel and I hope there will be many more to come because he's got quite a talent for it.

A group of friends embark on a trip to the mountains of West Virginia. They bring with them booze, drugs, music and plans to have a good old time. Unfortunately for them, the house on Mouth of Sheol has other plans.

The craziness begins before the group even arrives at their destination. Strange encounters with locals, yard signs spouting biblical nonsense, and a distorted cover of a classic John Denver song playing on the radio forewarns the group that something isn’t right in this town.

The story kept my attention from start to finish and was well written. I didn’t get bored at any time and a feeling of foreboding forced me to read on to see what happens. The characters were believable and actually fun to follow. The flashes of humor blended well with the uncomfortable sense that these people were in serious danger.

I read this book surprisingly fast and enjoyed every minute of it. Starr is an author I’ll be following in the future. Being right up my alley, I gave Prepare to Meet Thy God 5 stars and would highly recommend it to anyone that loves horror, stories of the occult, and John Denver.
