I began this series on a whim when I found the first book at a used store, and have been keeping up. This was another intriguing installment in the series for sure. Set in post-apocalyptic Seattle, after a huge worldwide catastrophe has left most settlements cut off from each other and a large gap in the classes, the world is not a friendly place for witches. The church blames witches for the disasters that have befallen the world and the masses have turned against any and all forms of magic in fear of something like this happening again. Parker is the new leader of the field arm of the church, the group that is actively hunting and disposing of these hated individuals. She suspects witches are beginning to eat away about the foundation of her Mission, and is confronted with the proof in the form of Agent Simon Wells. Both a Witch and a Mission agent, he is riding the rim between his mission and his peers, all while trying to protect himself and save his own life from ending in a terrifying and extremely explosive fashion. Together they are faced with their own mortality and morality and they race to stop a modern day dr. Mengele who is causing the deaths of hundreds of "subjects", i.e.. witches. Faced with the truth our the organization and the love of a good man , who just happens to also be a witch, Parker must decide if she is willing to give it all up to save her lover and prevent the coming destruction or all she had ever believed in. With the return of several favorite characters and lots of action and suspense this installment of the story was definitely worth the read, though I did feel there were a lot of lose ends. Can't wait to read the next in the series to see if some of those are all nicely tied up.

If you’re looking for a fun, sexy paranormal romance that doesn’t have vampires or werewolves in it Karina Cooper’s Dark Mission series is for you. I’ve been enjoying this series from the beginning. I love the post-Armageddon world she has built in Seattle and the cast of characters that keep you guessing who’s the good guy and who’s the bad guy. Even though each story has their own HEA there is an overarching plotline between all four books so I do not recommend starting here with Sacrifice the Wicked because it can get a little confusing. But because I’ve been enjoying the series since the beginning I fell in love again with Ms. Cooper and her witches. Simon Wells has been working undercover at the Mission as an agent hiding that he is really a witch. He has been reporting to Director Parker Adams but what he feels for her is a little more than just your typical boss/employee relationship. When Parker’s life is on the line Simon will throw out any agenda he previously had to save the woman he cares for. But can Parker set aside her many years as a Mission agent to understand the real agenda? Great movement in the storyline paired with great action and a steamy romance made this another fun read. I’ll be sad to see this series come to an end.

Karina Cooper has taken the primary world building conflict of her Dark Mission series to a new level. What was once witches versus witch hunters, now boils with conspiracy within the Mission. We know witches were being made a la super soldiers for the Mission. We know that many of these manufactured witches have died. And we learned some of our key players in the earlier novels are products of GeneCorp.

This time we spend time with Mission Director Parker Adams. She’s still trying to figure out what the hell went on at the old GeneCorp building at the end of All Things Wicked. She’s trying to investigate Operation Wayward Rose, but Sector Three isn’t having it. She knows witches have infiltrated her mission and is trying to figure out which people are truly hers. It’s quite infuriating for her. She is a dedicated and fiercely loyal woman. Her determination—or stubbornness, depending on who you ask—is a defining trait and one that amplifies the chemistry between her and Missionary-slash-Project-Salem-agent Simon Wells.

Simon can’t help but push Parker’s buttons. It’s too fun for him, and he’s running out of time for fun. He works for Sector Three, but is embedded in Parker’s Mission. He isn’t exactly hiding this from her. He can’t hide his feelings, either. As Sector Three turns up the heat, he has to choose between orders and the woman he loves. (Guess which way he goes there.)

Simon and Parker have a dynamic push-and-pull relationship with power plays and smoking-hot sex. Hard not to love that, right? What impressed me even more is somehow Cooper wrote her best hero yet. I thought I was head-over-heels for Silas. Then I was charmed by Phin. In the last book, I was surprised how quickly Caleb became my new favorite. Now bossy, protective, snarky, possessive Simon is my favorite of the Dark Mission heroes. Not kidding, folks. If you enjoy alphas, you’ll swoon for Simon.

Sacrifice the Wicked is heavy on the action and the sexual tension. If you love antagonistic relationships, clandestine meetings and conspiracies mixed in with heart-string-tugging romance, pick it up.

I don't know what I feel where this book is concerned. First of all I haven't read any of the others before it so dropping in during the middle of a series was really confusing and I spent most of my time trying to figure out what's going on. Regardless of that there's non stop action that really pulls you in and never really a down moment. Super exciting. Although the ending is an issue for me. It's not a cliffhanger since you're not left sitting there thinking "OMG what now?" More like it just ends. Drops you off on what feels like the middle of the story with no warning. I'm definitely going to read the next book to see what happens and hopefully feel less confused with that one.

Director Parker Adams knows that Sector Three has infiltrated her Mission with witches. She has also taken classified reports that have to do with GeneCorp, and she believes are connected with Sector Three. Simon Wells takes it upon himself to relieve Adam’s of the classified reports. He breaks into her house, and accomplishes this, but on the way out someone takes the reports from him when he starts to have a degradation attack. He is a GeneCorp witch, and he knows that he doesn’t have that long to live. After he steals the report Adams meets with an informant. After her meeting with the informant Simon finds her name on Sector Three’s hit list.

This is the fourth book in Cooper’s post-apocalyptic series, Dark Mission. Each book so far has revolved around shifting POVs of a heroine and hero, who fall in love. Simon and Adams played a large role in the book before this one, All Things Wicked. Sacrifice the Wicked feels a lot like a middle book. Events don’t play out as heavy as they did in All Things Wicked. This being the fourth book I encourage readers to start at book one, unless they want a quick romance with danger sprinkled in.

I didn’t know how to feel about Parker Adams. She is a stronger female lead than some of the women in the past, and has a level head for the most part. I enjoyed her falling in lust with Simon, but I didn’t enjoy her falling in love with him. When he comes to her apartment to save her, she is ready to shoot him, and rightly so. They end up having to run for their lives. Her attraction for Simon isn’t about just how hot he is. It is also for how alpha male he is. The steamy scenes are hot, but it is no more than two days together (maybe less) before they are declaring love. Danger happens, and Simon is the hero that rocks her world.

Simon was much easier to get a handle on. He is strong in almost all ways, but he is dying. It’s something he has come to terms with until Adams is in his life. He quickly falls for her without meaning to, and for some reason this is more believable on his side. Perhaps it is because he is dying, or that he admits to dreaming about her, but most of all, I think it’s the romance of him coming for her when she is in danger. Cooper does a great job of showing the reader how much Adams means to him.

The start of the book is full of action and lusty scenes that pull the story along until just past the midway point in the book. After that the novel slows down. It starts to get really confusing. Like all of the novels in this series, I expected a big show down at the end. Instead all I found was the first cliff hanger in this series. Nothing changes for Simon and Adams. I felt let down by this, the start of the novel was an improvement, but it fell off towards the end.

I still think there is some good in the Dark Mission series. Cooper has created an interesting world of witches & hunters in an intense Seattle setting. In the first novels I wanted more out of the setting, which happened in the All Things Wicked. In Sacrificed the Wicked the strong point is Simon’s character. He is one of the better protagonists in this series. On the other hand this book reminds me of Blood of the Wicked, the first in the series. There aren’t any surprises, or anything new here and it’s starting to feel as if the romances are being recycled.
