It’s strange, then wonderful, and the beyond comprehension nonsensical. Above all else - it was weird and I liked it. I think a few extra reads are needed in order to untangle everything.

Fascinating collection. I adore the way Maris intertwined Freud & psychoanalysis, the mythic & writing from a myreid of different voices. Some fascinating form to reflect all this. Especially the unhealthy lineage/baton passed, reflected in The House or Atreus. However, it was just too abstract in places for me and simplified in others. It was a little jarring like coming up for breaths of fresh air between diving into the sea. And some poems didn't grasp my heart as much as I wanted them to. Yet, it was full of wit and humour - carrying a sharp doubled edged sword.

Favourite poems; The X Man, It was Discovered that Gut Bacteria were Responsible, Catherine and Her Wheel (I), I am signing none of the emails with an 'X', At family dinner we talked politics, Then we had the best meal of our stay, All the Signs were There, How to be a Dream Girl not a Doormat about the 'Ex', The A Man, Anyway Something Happened.

Just not my favourite style of poetry. Very subjective so take with a pinch of salt!

There were only a few poems I connected with in this collection but I'm sure it would be perfect for some people as they were very well written.
