A DNF at 80 pages for me. I tried, I really did. The writing just killed the story for me.

Fascinating book that deals with the intense desire for human connection. It asks the questions, what it actually means to be “evil”? And what is humanity? All wrapped up in the facade of a man creating a monsters and then shunning his creation.

As I started this book, I realised how little I knew about Frankenstein despite it being a classic. I knew there was a monster created by Frankenstein but that was it. I was expecting scary but instead found got sad. I felt bad for every character in this book. Not quite 5 starts as I found it quite hard to get into and only got sucked in once Frankenstein returned to Geneva.

Dan Steven's narration was excellent, really captured the despair

Obviously I had high expectations for this book, but it actually held its weight. I went into it knowing what happened at the end, but it still managed to keep me interested the whole way through. The book commented on topics like the ethics of cloning and science that I genuinely found really interesting. On top of this, Shelly’s descriptions were absolutely beautiful and the way that she describes the monsters feelings reminded me of that to the ghost in phantom of the opera. The overall story kept me hooked from the beginning and I’m incredibly glad that I’ve finally read this book.
