I knew I was missing some context (but I approach every Sanderson work with that mindset anyway), but didn't expect this one to be video game related too bad the game is an iOS game and no PC version 😭

Great storytelling, as always. I thought it drew some parallels with The Final Empire but maybe that's why the developers approached Sanderson for it.

This is a fun little novella, for what it is. This book was written by a well-known fantasy author for a video-game franchise. For all those who are now rolling their eyes--I understand. If you haven't played, and enjoyed, the first Infinity Blade, this book will be meaningless to you. If you don't intend to play the second installment of the franchise, this book will leave you exasperated because it ends almost before it gets going.

After that rather large caveat, I will say that Sanderson did a good job with what he had to work with. His assignment was to produce a small novel to connect the plot lines between the first and second Infinity Blade games. There isn't that much to work with, so there isn't that much to the book, but I still enjoyed it. Sanderson did very well with character development for such a small book, especially considering that he had his setting and much of his plot dictated to him.

If you like swords, duelling, fantasy, and the games from which the book was made, then you will enjoy this quick little read.

One final note: I like fantasy and science fiction, and this book was both. I found the juxtaposition of the two elements to be very entertaining.
