I don't believe that (main-) characters have to be lovable, but if they're not, give me other reasons than them being unbearably annoying and so much "not like the other girls" that Bella Swan would get jealous! Kingfisher (this name alone gets my blood pressure high - not in a good way) felt honestly like a fever dream, almost a parody of all romantasy male tropes combined. His "hotness" felt like a caricature to me.
His and the magic of the world seemed like a side idea that hadn't gotten much thought, probably because it went all into writing the porn - eh pardon me, the plot...
Half the plot was rediculous, annoying arguments between Saeris and Kingfisher just because they are both so sassy and stubborn, to lead to the inevitable spice of the book, which takes up almost another half. One scene of that could've definitely been more than enough, it was your standard unrealistic and unnecessary grafic descriptions of life-changing-coming-within-a-second-type of toxic-relationship-sex - and jeez, can't you leave anything up to imagination!? The rest of the story probably had potential but it was hidden in the shadow of Kindfishers giant c***, which was mentioned at least 25 times and almost is the true main character of the story.
The way the characters talked was 70% "fuck", and dialog surrounding the verb of it, which felt incredibly un-fantastic and not the slightest fitting for the setting.
Also I absolutely hated the way, Danya was portrayed as the one dimensional stupid bitch to show just how much better our annoying protagonist of a Mary Jane is than basically any other female character. Internalized misogyny hello!
Saeris constantly brings up how incompetent, annoying or stupid other characters like Danya or Carrion are, while being the biggest pain in the ass herself.
In addition to that isn't it just too convenient how Saeris brother and that other guy (name long forgotten) where saved by Carrion (however that took place) and just like that Saeris completely stops caring about them? Suddenly she has new friends and her old life doesn't matter anymore. If she ever had believable motives and background that was when it crumbled to nothing.
Also I found it almost hilarious how little things just showed how flawed this book was. Like Saeris comes from a place where there's such a water shortage she barely had enough to drink her whole life. And yet, thrown into a realm where there's more than planty, she adjust within a minute to that and suddenly needs showers before sex?! And how the hell do showers look in a fantasy world anyways?!
Also the King declines sending more food and resources to war camp, one scene there's mentioned how there's barely enough, while a couple of chapters later the healer says how there's a never ending supply of food?! Which one is it now?
Small details that are just adding to the amount of stupidity I find in this book.
To say a good thing at last: I enjoyed the plot in the end a bit more, it felt like finally we got somewhere interesting, but in the that potential was wasted too. It is the typical story of chosen girl saves the day and is more special than the whole universe together - I just can't anymore.
All plot, that wasn't spice or romance, felt like a side decoration with little artistry or thought behind it.
Carrion and the fox where probably the most interesting characters of the whole story, although interesting feels like far stretched, unfortunately being just pretty side decoration too for some little cute and funny moments, that also didn't help much making anything better.
Yeah... I know. If I don't enjoy a book I don't have to finish it but I guess you could say at least it was gripping enough for me to want to. The hate aspect of the phenomenon of hate watching / consuming definitely worked on me, cause I feel very strong feelings of that.
Will I listen to the next one though? In true quicksilver manners: Fuck no!
To sum up: a perfect book if you like hate watching and for strengthening your eye muscles by rolling them frequently.

Although it's pretty chunky and intimidating, it is a relatively easy read that sucked me in. I finished it in 2 days and I can't wait for the next book!
