Interesting middle eastern tale of long ago. Fun fiction with a fair bit of historic truth thrown in. An intriguing read for young readers.

Wonderful story about found family, the meaning of friendship, and the worth of storytelling. The structure is really interesting, switching from a tale told in the past to the present tense at a crucial point that allows the author to pull off a little twist. Very satisfying and feels timeless.

I especially love the ending, the book did not pick up until like halfway through.

Someone donated an ARC to our library, and I snagged it, and I’m glad I did. This was such an enjoyable and engaging read. I loved the character development and descriptions of the cast. All of the twists are hinted at just enough that you can be excited to have an idea of what’s coming without feeling like something was too predictable.
Also, “to everyone we love we give a knife,” Mr Nayeri you can’t just go that hard in a middle-grade adventure, that part knocked the wind out of me.
