What an interesting look at the fragility of the written word. It is, in a way, heartbreaking to read these accounts of stories that have been lost due to fire, censorship, stupidity, and more. But the discussion of posthumously publishing (or, in these cases, destroying) an authors work is so important. Who can truly say what that person may have wished for, and who should have the right to make that call? Certainly one way to think about what “death of the author” really entails.

The subject matter of this book is really interesting, but the narrative tone is kind of boring.  I don't know if this is the fault of the translators or the author.  Hell, could be both.  I did manage to power through it because I was intrigued, but reading this book was a slog sometimes.

To be honest, this "book" feels like a long list of Wikipedia articles, it puts down facts and offers only some aspects of unique examination. In retrospect, it's an interesting quick read but nothing too innovative or memorable.
