Danielle Wright collects and translates fifteen popular Japanese nursery rhymes. The illustrations enhance the meaning of the rhymes. A glossary that explains pronunciation and a CD with children singing the nursery rhymes also help to enhance the experience.

This book would be appropriate to share with young children between birth and three as a read aloud. Older children between four and six may also enjoy listening to the CD, imitating the Japanese sounds and exploring the rhymes independently.

This is an aesthetically pleasing book. I'm reading it to try to improve my Japanese reading skills. I noticed that in one of the rhymes, Dance of the Rabbits, some of the Japanese was written on the wrong line and it mismatched the romaji and English translation. I also saw a few places where it seemed like a lot of liberty had been taken with the translation. I wish the translation was more literal so I could get more out of it. I'll read it quite a few more times though. It's better than nothing.
