I may have found a new author to follow. I really like the way Jance develops the characters and see potential to follow this series much like I have the Corcoran O Connor series of William Kent Krueger. I like series in which the setting--in this case Arizona--seem almost as important as the characters and the plot. The characters deal with real life issues such as the tension between family and work and the people central to the stories--in this case the sheriff's dept--are fully fleshed out.

This series never gets boring. Love the family relationships and the mysteries.

Not the best in the series, but a good mystery nonetheless.

I think what pulls me in the most is that I live in the area these books take place, and it makes the storyline feel more real to me.

Another book read for the Goodreads Around the World in 52 Books challenge. This is for #41 - A book by an author with the same first and last initials.

I have read quite a few of J.A. Jance's books - definitely have not read them in order as they are pretty much stand alone works. There are some things you miss by not reading in order, but you will pick it up pretty quickly.

This novel is about a wrongful conviction, family secrets, dog fighting and murder. Fun and fast read with interesting characters and plenty of things happening to draw you in.

All J.A. Jance books are great but my favorites are the Sheriff Joanna Brady series. Brady is tough, smart, and resourceful, and also, in this book, hugely pregnant. Despite her, uh, challenges, Brady determines who the murderers were, and in the end solves an old puzzle. A delight to read.
