First of all, I love the format of this graphic novel. It truly is very conversational and I loved the way she imposed drawings over photographs. Second, I’m sad it took me so long to finally read this. The dialogue is funny yet serious, as it covers a wide range of difficult topics such as race, sex, love, and family. All of these conversations are so relevant and important and affect us all.

Wow! Ok in three words this graphic novel was: unique, engrossing, and moving. I loved the collage-like style of photos mixed with the authors drawings. The simple, balanced page layouts were very appealing and easy to read. I found her use of the same faces being used to represent different yet similar types of people really clever and funny. I also fully teared up several times despite it being a quick read; the writing is so honest. It looks like her first novel is very well reviewed too so I look forward to reading more from her this year!

Wow. Adding Good Talk by Mira Jacob to my favorite books of 2021! I firmly believe this is a book everyone should give a chance. In a global climate where we are encouraging people to have tough conversations with friends, family, colleagues, this graphic novel is the perfect starting point for those conversations. This book is thought-provoking and heart-wrenching while still finding moments of humor. It is a reflection of America. It’s a reflection of the good and the ugly that occurs too frequently in our country.

I absolutely loved the art of this graphic novel!A mixed media of illustrations and photographs! I thought it beautifully highlighted the conversations Mira Jacob is holding throughout these pages.

Don’t wait so long like I did! Definitely pick this one up ASAP!

This book really underlines the depth of impact that micro aggressions have. I really enjoyed non-linear narrative style in this memoir - it tied together experiences into something the reader could learn from.
