I have no doubt that some of the story went over my head, what stood out most to me (besides the ending,  ofc) was that Leila would rather believe in an apocalypse than that she killed her family

The book has a pretty unique premise, but I wasn’t a big fan of the writing of the book itself. I have never enjoyed first person books, and this one is a prime example of why. It focuses more on the past and the narrator’s thoughts than the current ongoings in the book, showing favoritism to world and character building than the current ongoing plot.

It was by no means a bad book, and while it does tackle some heavier topics, none of the descriptions are that graphic like in other books I’ve read. If you’re looking for a more introspective read on mental health, how it’s dealt with, and understanding and acknowledging the perspectives of other people, then this would be a good book for you, it just didn’t tick my boxes when it comes to horror/apocalypse books.

I was already so intrigued by the premise of this, but it surpassed my expectations. I don't think I was ready for how meta the story would get with discussions of "the narrative." Quickly rocketed to one of my favorite books. It's one of those that I think I'll get more out of with each reread.

I know this book is in, because after listing to it, I was fully sucked in. Questioning if it is real and I am suffering from derealization and don't notice the world around me.  Honestly such a good book and made my brain just go . . . .

Very fresh and interesting take on a zombie apocalypse!
The idea of all of us being trapped in our own perspectives, our own narratives, really struck a chord with me at this point in my life.
It's hopeful and hopeless, kind and cruel, a delicate balance of opposites I found compelling and touching. Great read.
