This was sooo good

This was a really excellent sequel to Port in a Storm, showing Colin and David's developing relationship a few months down the road. It was just really heartfelt and full of lots of engaging hurt/comfort and good conversations. Highly recommend.

A Scattered Thoughts and Rogue Words Review An Alisa Review:

Rating: 4 stars out of 5

I felt for both David and Colin as they both felt they weren’t enough for the other, though for different reasons. David is afraid Colin is just grateful for his help months ago while Colin is afraid he isn’t good enough for the good witch. It takes an extreme situation to get them to actually open up about their feelings but it does the trick. I’m so glad the Colin isn’t scare to help David given how he was used in the past. I am enjoying these short stories and look forward to hopefully more glimpses into their life together.

The cover art by Natasha Snow is another cute one though, it’s strange for Colin to have changed colors.

This and the previous story are so very pretty that they feel magical. Great characters, the age-old fear of confessing feelings, all wrapped in beautiful worldbuilding. Beautiful.

I really liked the premise, but the book was too short to delve deeply into the conflict. The prose is a bit abstract at times, and while I can see what Noone is aiming for it doesn't really land for me. The MC:s are really cute together though.

Like book one the story premise could have been a five star. If the characters had more room to breathe (like had another 250 pages to stretch out on) and/or the premise could have been explored even a little bit more it would have made a huge difference. I felt like in several places the text meandered. I think the words wasted in this meandering could have been spent giving us more information or building the character arcs. As with book one, I was not a fan of the writing style. I saw several people address this in reviews for the first book, but it doesn't seem like those same reviewers moved on to book 2. The writing style caused abrupt stops and furrowed brows pulling me out of the story so fast I got whiplash.

I really do believe this story has great potential. I am a big fan of shifter stories in general. I think also, I could get used to Noone's writing style if the story made up for it. All in all, I think if you want something short, cute, and not needing a lot of brain power to consume, this is it. I may need to read something else by this author to see if I can jive more with something longer, if not I will have to move on.

One thing that I had thought after reading the first book, was that that I wished the story was longer. I did enjoy this, but I wish it was from Colin's POV. Even though it was short, David's insecurities and the lack of communication did get annoying.
