I had purchased this several years ago as an e-book not long after I got my first nook, along with a slew of other books as I was so excited about being able to purchase, download, and begin reading immediately. Then I proceeded to forget about it for quite some time until I was looking for something holiday themed to read this Christmas season.

This collection of short holiday romances started out quite enjoyably with Holiday Sparks, by Shannon Stacey. Cute and sweet, this story was exactly what I was looking for. Unfortunately, it was also the best of the bunch for me, and with each story, I was more and more disappointed with the collection as a whole. The stories and characters weren’t as fleshed out as I would like and they toed the line to erotica, which I hadn’t realized before I began.

I think this is a case where the problem is with myself and my timing. If I had read this back when I originally bought it, I probably would have been much happier. A big part of the reason I read is for escape; it gives me the opportunity to dive into another time and place with different characters than I interact with on a daily basis. And there was a time in my life when I almost solely read romance and tons of anthologies like these - namely, back when I was dating and looking for a happily ever after. Now that I am happily married, I find I’m less attracted to this genre as a whole and escape into other types of stories instead.

Ultimately, I don’t regret reading this, but I certainly won’t be touching anything similar anytime soon.
