Janus Silang and the Creature of Tabon by Edgar Calabia Samar is the first volume in Volume One in the Janus Silang Saga. This epic horror fantasy graphic novel was adapted from the Philippine National Book Award-winning novel of the same name. In this chilling tale, we follow a teenager who’s world is turned upside down when the mythical creatures from his video game come to life and kill all the kids playing at a local internet café – except for Janus.

Janus is then forced to fight against monsters from Philippine folklore, confront the mystery of his bloodline.

I have not yet had the opportunity to read the original work, but on it’s own this graphic novel was spectacular. I truly enjoyed my reading experience of this. All these monstrous creatures I’ve only heard of in the horror stories of my childhood were excellently illustrated. The plot twists had me reeling, and I was honestly pretty frightened reading this. This was equal parts action packed, suspenseful, and horrifying.

The artwork was fantastic, the colors vibrant and very engaging, the panels were so well done, and I very much enjoyed he pacing and the story of the book as a whole. I am eagerly anticipating the release of next volume. Thank you to Tuttle Publishing for sending me the finished copy. My opinions are my own.
