DID NOT FINISH — I will not rate a book that I shelf as “did not finish.” I don’t believe it’s fair to put a rating on books I didn’t read from beginning to end.

Another Dawn by Sandra Brown
Book starts out in 1890's and Jake is at Priscillias garden of eden, catching up with her about past events. She runs the saloon and whore house in TX.
Jake Lankstrom, cowboy and likes the outside.
Banner Coleman, Ross and Lydia's daughter who is to be married.
Ross and Lydia from the previous book, ranchers and Jakes mom lives on the ranch.
When Banner doesn't get married he loses his head and has sex with her and next day her father offers him the job of manager of Banner's farm. It's the job of a lifetime-freedom to work the land but he knows he can't stay and work Banner's land when it's her mother he really wants.
Banner can't have the land if he doesn't agree to be the manager...
She wants him as a husband and tries to lure him to her. He's told Ross he will protect her...
There are many instances where they are touching or hugging or kissing and they know they should not...
Hot steamy sex scenes and many other events bring mysteries, medical emergencies during a storm, secrets from the past and gossip to keep this story moving along.
I received this book from National Library Service for my BARD (Braille Audio Reading Device).

Was a good story but Banner Coleman character was a little too whiny for me.

I really liked the first book Sunset Embrace. Knowing there was a sequel I was interested to see what happened. Less than halfway through I knew I didn’t like this book. Banner was not a good heroine, and I didn’t care for her to be with Jake. Their whole relationship felt too forced to me. I hated the ending. I’ll never read this book again, and it has probably ruined the first book for me.

I put off reading this book for so long because I knew the ending would break my heart, and it did. I actually feel sick about it because I loved Ross and Lydia so much. Sunset Embrace is one of my favorite books ever.

I don’t think I’ve ever despised a book character as much as I despise Priscilla Watkins. What a brilliant villain!

This book was so beautiful, though. So, so good. This one wasn’t quite as angsty as Sunset Embrace but there was a good deal of rejection and cruel words from Jake.

Sandra Brown’s Western romance is unrivaled. This book shattered my heart.

It’s just creepy.

The hero used to be in love with the heroine’s mother. And when he couldn’t have her, he fucked her daughter eighteen years later instead.

The constant comparisons of the heroine to her mother, by both characters, is just gross.

All I can say is, thank the lord that my family motto is, "Thou Shalt not piss off a prostitute." because if this story has any moral, it is that a prostitute scorned is a prostitute to avoid.

I thoroughly enjoyed the characters, the subtle layering of the main plot with sub-plots and the palpable chemistry between Jake and Banner. Yet I wanted something a bit more from the novel. We were told that Jake and Banner were like brother and sister, so I had hoped that their dialogue was full of banter and that well versed bickering that always makes you smile. Instead their arguments were harsh and intense and designed to anger and hurt. It was more uncomfortable than enjoyable.

The whole novel also bordered on repetitive: Banner being told to do one thing and eventually doing another and, oh! she's in trouble now. The importance of the Jake/Lydia relationship and the input of Priscilla and Grady.

I read the novel in about two days, so I can't say that it was terrible, but nor would I say I 'Liked it'. It was an ok read.
