This was such a Sunday read - perfect little bitesized chunks to read over the day.

I enjoyed this one more than the first one. Maybe because I knew the backstory?

This did not resonate with me as hard as the first book of the series. It did explain more of the system behind the magic and I thought that it was well thought out. There are some wonderful quotes to keep in mind when regarding relationships that still exist in the present.
This book primarily takes place after the events of the first book with glimpses to earlier moments. We get to see who the ghost is by way of someone returning 30 years to the past. In that chapter we learn three rules for those who pour the coffee
they must be female and of a specific line, they must be at least seven years old, and one more. They will lose the ability to take someone to the past once they have become pregnant with a girl, as the power will leave the mother for the baby.
I do wish the reveal had come earlier but we also had last-chapter reveals in the first book so that may be a stylistic choice.

While I loved the first book in this series, I felt like this one fell a bit flat. I'm not sure if it was written this way, or if it was just something that happened in translation, but there was just so much repetition regarding not only the rules, but with stories as well. I would find myself getting lost in some of the mundane details in certain stories that just didn't seem to fit. It would also jump timelines suddenly - I guess what I'm trying to say is there were many times where there didn't seem to be a cohesive flow to the story. Maybe this was a hindrance of the audio as I couldn't see the shift nor did the narrator indicate a shift in times.

Overall, I do love the moments when the loved ones meet in the café to either say their goodbyes, their 'I'm sorries', or even just see them. My heart breaks and swells for each one, but unfortunately it just wasn't enough to really carry the stories.

I’m glad I decided to read the series in sequence. It’s less of a few short stories with this second one - characters are connecting to each other. The vapor surprised me. I thought these travels to the past were mostly imagined conversations. I stand corrected. Onto #3!

The translation is better, however, not all the stories hit as hard as they did in the second book
