This was just the quick read I needed today. This sexy, but still very sweet, novella is Selena Laurence's holiday gift to those of us that love the Powerplay series. Colonel Thibedeux needs a bride if he wants a promotion. Sure, it's not exactly ethical, but he's a company man and willing to play the game to get what he's worked towards for so long. Thus begins his marriage of convenience (one of my favorite tropes!!!) to the sweet elementary school teacher that catches his eye. She's in a bind after her jerk ex-husband ditches her with a pile of debt. Lisa agrees to the marriage, strictly platonic, that will last for one year. The marriage takes place just before the holidays, so all of those festive moments are in there as this couple discovers that maybe what they both want is something real. Toss in a few scenes with my favorite characters from the Powerplay series (I'm looking at you Kingmaker! And you too, Mr. First Man! *swoon*) and this reader is one happy gal.
If you haven't read the series, no worries. This novella can be enjoyed as a standalone. Although I'd encourage you to start from the beginning if you have the time. I promise this group is worth it!

Short and steamy novella. The characters’ interactions are so sweet and I spent most of the story understanding why they’d made the choices they did and why they had their concerns and just enjoying the fact that there would be a resolution because this is romance! Great book

Colonel Jefferson Thibedeux needs a wife if he wants any chance of a promotion. It's not really ethical to come out and say it but he has been told that he needs one in the next 40 days if he wants to move up.

Lisa Scotch is done with men, especially soldiers. She has just received a dissolution of marriage after her husband, Doug who was in the Army, left her and put her in severe debt.

When Jefferson approaches Lisa about an arrangement will she accept knowing he can pay off her debts or will she reject the offer knowing her heart could once again be hurt?

I really enjoyed this book and the ability for second chances and love when you least expect it.

Jefferson was a career army man and hated that he may not get promoted due to not being married as it was still the old army way. When he met Lisa he knew he was attracted to her but it was only after learning about her that he knew she was who he wanted.

Lisa was so hesitant to get involved but I loved that all of her interests were protected by Jefferson as he wanted her to know that he would never do anything that she did not want.

I absolutely loved the shower scene and how everything gradually began to change! Their chemistry was apparent but I loved how it all went down with them.

Such a great story and I hope there is more with these characters!

Really cute story and nice addition to the series

I’ve always liked Jeff so was glad to get his story...though sad it was a short one! Cute holiday themed story and lovable main characters. Not much time for character development but what there was was brought depth to the characters.
