I am not done with the book yet, but I am enjoying it. The reviewers seem to have overlooked the fact that this text was written over 100 years ago by a man compiling folk and fairy tales he had found. He was translating and trying to have them make sense; in a different language at times. So many people are harsh on older texts because they are old fashioned. Obviously. Read a more up to date version if you have a problem. There are plenty of those out there.

Some hits, some misses, but more hits than misses. I generally enjoy fairytales, even when they get a bit kooky. I definitely liked this book better than the red fairy tale book. Haven't read any of the others.

This is a book of fairytales and traditional stories of a variety of cultures. It includes European tales, stories taken out of 1001 Nights and less traditional stories. One of them is even written in Scots, for your entertainment. Lots of fun to read with beautiful traditional illustrations.
