I've read one other book by Megan Miranda a long time ago, and I did not like the ending, but I was willing to give her another try. This book is a suspense book about a girl, Avery, trying to determine if her friend Sadie really committed suicide, or if something more sinister is at play.

The reason I was not a fan of Miranda's other book was because of an unreliable narrator, which I have discovered is just not for me. I also did not like that there was no justice in that other book, and i didn't like the message.

This book did not have an unreliable narrator, so I enjoyed it more, but I do have to make a note about how tedious some of her descriptions get. Half the book is taken up with the character musing about other people's feelings and thoughts, about their "flawless skin", or how a necklace felt when she wrapped her hand around it, or how the sand must have felt on Sadie's bare feet. Just too much describing going on here. She also had a very odd, unhealthily close relationship with Sadie that was rather dark.

I listened to this on audio, and I wouldn't recommend it that way because half the time I couldn't figure out how the character got somewhere or who she was talking to. The transitions were not smooth, and I feel like I missed alot.

There is plenty of bad language, some characters sleeping together, and just bad character issues on almost all fronts. Another BIG content warning is that there is some rather vivid descriptions of suicidal thoughts. I'd be careful with that, I don't like when suicide or suicidal thoughts are given so much detail in books because so many people struggle in that way today.

Overall, I did like the ending of this one better, though justice wasn't done very well in this book either. But at least I could root for the main character (sort of). This is also darker than I normally like my fiction, so because of that and my issues with content and excessive descriptions, it gets three stars.

This was an interesting read! I never fully got into it, but I wanted to know how the events would resolve and enjoyed the story.

The book itself was good, I just was not surprised by the ending and also see a major plot hole.

This is the best book I have read in a very long time. From the moment you start the book it draws you in. The storyline is wrapped up well with a resolution you wouldn't have seen coming.
