I think the audio format was the issue for me. The author used an intriguing method to convey her story, but the complexity of moving through the wormholes was hard to follow on the audiobook for me.

I loved this conceptually and there are some beautiful pieces to it, but overall I’m not sure the audio worked for me. Chronology, names and reality blurred and I found these hard to keep up with, and I fear too much of it went over my head to thoroughly appreciate the narrative.

This book was so interesting, but a lot of work to read. As the subtitle says, it is a speculative memoir of transracial adoption. The author is a mixed black woman who was adopted by a white family. She learns, though, that her birthmother had given her a different name before relinquishing her. The speculative nature of this book comes in the writing of that girl's life, as though she had not been put up for adoption and was instead raised by her white birthmother. There are wormholes between these two realities, and a few others as well.
