Good, satisfying book. There is nothing outstanding here, but the storytelling is good; the narration form all the different points of view works; the story didn't hold a lot of surprises, but it is enjoyable. This was just the book I needed after a string of so many books I gave up on that I stopped including them on my list here.

Extremely depressing, repetitive, and too long. Not a single likable character in sight. Charlie is absolutely trash, so why does Claire like him so much? If Alison and him weren’t in love, why did they get married? DNF. Not invested in the lives of these people at all.

1.5 stars. Ugh. There was not one deeply likeable character in this book. When a grandmother who had survived cancer gave the advice to just seek your happiness, and her examples were smoking marijuana, sleeping with someone she didn't know, and spending the night on a mountaintop, I should have known to just stop reading.

The book was interesting enough for me to keep reading, but I lacked any feeling, good or bad, towards the characters. What should have been an emotional exploration of 4 good friends and 2 marriages felt flat to me.

Enjoyed this book. Read it in just a couple days. Sad stuff goes on. Interesting how the main character copes (or doesn't?) thru different things that go on.

never felt the main characters were fully developed. Because of this I never felt attached to anyone and didn't really care what happened to them. I think I would have a hard time recommending this to any of my customers.

Not sure how this can be the same author to one of my fave books Orphan Train...characters were awful, story so so to boring...

This was one of the books I grabbed at the Border's final closing sale. I knew nothing of the author, never heard of this book before so I had nothing to except.
Growing up as a child from divorce I always am interested to read about couples who go through the process. What leads up to the final decision, how they begin the process, ect. I suppose I would have liked to have read about how the couple ended up telling their children, but it wasn't a major loss.
I'm always one wanting a happy ending, and if Allison got her's or is at least okay with where she is at the end of this book that's alright with me too I suppose. It's weird to see a couple's love and marriage dissolve but at the same time still go through the "routine" that a couple in love would do, minus the love.
I enjoyed this book because I really hated some characters. Allison's mother for one. She's everything I fear a grandmother/mother-in-law would be. I wish Allison and Ben went to each-other for more support and I'm a little surprised they didn't as how close they seemed at the beginning of the novel with the accident. But it appeared later on that they really weren't close at all?
I was really hoping in the end Charlie and Claire would realize they've made a huge mistake and come to the realization that they aren't as compatible as they thought they were and were left to live a life of regret.
And after everything Charlie had done throughout the book to read that "he was happy" at the end and okay with how things were going made me sick. He's disgusting.
