Unfortunately, I can really say anything positive. Caleb was way too cheesy and I did not care for the insta love. Brooke was pretty weak and her constant crying was very grating. There was potential for a cool storyline with her ex's family, but nothing came from that.

I struggled through this audiobook, at first it was really good and I was really engaged, but about 30% in, I started to maybe get a bit annoyed?  I felt the MC was a bit TOO OVER BEARING, definitely stalker vibes and it was just narrated in a way that I didn’t end up appreciating. Unfortunately, this wasn’t my favourite.  But to each their own.

Tropes:
He falls first
Dual POV
Protector
Billionaire
Crazy Ex

Filthy Rich by Raine Miller

Contemporary Romance. Standalone beginning of a series.

Raine Miller has been a favorite author of mine since I started this blog. She was at the very first Wicked Book Weekend, which was all of my favorite authors. I think Raine's experience with writing historical novels makes her contemporaries have a little more class than most out there, but believe me, there is no lack of sexy! Raine also doesn't follow the trends, and I just love how she crafts a romance. Filthy Rich is no exception.

Caleb was born rich and privileged, in fact, his family owns 'Blackstone Island' off Boston, though he hasn't been out there in about 10 years. This is also where Brooke currently lives, and travels to her Boston interior design job by ferry while also working as waitstaff for a caterer at night. Brooke is British, and has had a rough life, coming to live in America with her grandmother, a maid on the island, when she was only 15.

Brooke catches Caleb's eye outside a Starbucks on the street in Boston, but when he sees her again waitressing at one of his society events, and heard her British accent, he instantly knew she was to be his.
"I watched her walk away from me and felt the pounding of my heart vibrating throughout my entire body.
Something had just happened to me.
I wasn't completely sure what exactly, but I was crystal clear on the reason.
Her."

He knew he had to have her, and plunked down five million without batting an eye to make sure he would be seeing her regularly.
"I kissed her forehead and stilled as I thought about how right this actually felt. Hadn’t known I was missing anything. Hadn’t known it was possible for someone to steal your heart without even knowing they’d done it. Hadn’t known I needed her."

I loved the family history they share, and how the island all plays into it, and how the past came full circle.
"Like Sleeping Beauty in the fucking fairy tale, my beauty came to life in my arms."

Though Caleb's mother was horribly disapproving, the words of his father from his death bed are what stuck with him.

And believe me, his heart knew! And so did his body. He was a dirty talker, and the sex was hot!
"He pulled his mouth away and stared into my eyes as we fucked. It’s never been like this. It was beautiful and savage—it was filthy and precious.”

Likes:

  • •I love the island and the history of the families and the area. The scenery was rich and descriptive and I felt like I was there.

  • •There is something compelling and classic about the way Raine writes.

  • •Sexy scenes.

  • •Great intro to a new series.

  • •Super romantic.

  • •He is a dirty talker :)

  • •Well developed characters.

  • •Loved the secondary characters.

  • •Her inner voice cracked me up at times. "Stop it. Stop looking him over like a piece of meat, tit-head."

  • •Like a fairytale.

Dislikes:

  • •I am all for insta-love, but it was a bit overpowering.

  • •He wasn't quite as alpha as I like.

  • •After absolutely loving the first third, it got slow in the middle because nothing really happened. There was really no conflict or drama.

  • •Was there a connection to the other Blackstones that I missed?

  • •Brooke's crying at nothing, though it may have been medical, got old.

The Down & Dirty:

Raine Miller knows how to write a classy, swoony, truly romantic romance with well fleshed out characters, a little humor and some hot sex. Filthy Rich was very low in angst, so it was a fairly light and easy read. But because of this, after loving the first third, I felt like the middle moved slow, and I found myself taking an unheard of week to read it, partially because of personal reasons, and partly because I just wasn't desperate to find out what happens next, because there wasn't much happening besides the couple falling deeper in love. Luckily it picked back up at the end, and I still loved the story. Raine did an excellent job of setting up some future books in the series, and you can bet I am grabbing the next. If you like an easy, swoony, classic and classy romance that is light on the angst and high in the fairytale feel, Filthy Rich is for you.

"To own such power over another person was fearsome in a way. To have the burden of their happiness along with your own was a kind of terrible, beautiful treasure.”

Who doesn't like a Cinderella story? Although Brooke's background is a bit darker than the norm, she makes for a fun girl next door (or the help's relation as it were). And we (at least I do) love fated star-crossed happy endings. Caleb is everything you'd think a handsome billionaire would be, with a little knight in shining armor thrown in the mix. Put in bits and pieces of breadcrumbs for the background characters to set the seed for their books and this girls a happy camper. Can't wait to see how the rest of the series plays out.

Billionaire Caleb Blackstone is a player. He is successful, rich, and smoking hot. When he sets eyes on Brooke Casterley at a party he knows he will do anything and everything to have her.

Brooke Casterley knows all too well what a powerful man can do. She has the scars to prove it. Moving back home to help her Gram, she just wants to have a quiet life to heal her soul. That's until Caleb Blackstone comes to her rescue.

Can Brooke resist the charm that is Caleb Blackstone? Does she even want to? What could a filthy rich player have in common with a broke British girl?

I really enjoyed this one. It was super sweet. Very insta-love. Low angst. A tiny bit predictable. But I loved the characters (both main and secondary.) Caleb was SO sweet and one look at Brooke was all it took for him to give up his player ways and fall madly in love. Brooke was a sweet heroine. She had been through so much for such a young woman, but she handled it all so well. There is a fabulous cast of secondary characters, from Brooke's Gram to Caleb's siblings and best friend James. They all added an extra layer to the overall story. I can't wait to see what is in store for them.

That said, it did drag a little for me through the middle and I felt like we were left hanging about the heroine's husbands family. The author kept alluding to them being dangerous or potentially coming after the heroine, but nothing ever came of it. I also (as I mentioned above) found it a bit predictable. I saw the big surprise at the end coming from a mile away.

Overall, though, this was a fabulous little read that kept me entertained. So it gets two thumbs up from yours truly.

Blackstone Men = Total Hot Swoon worthy Book Boyfriends that will forever be on Your Top list!

Okay, so now that I have stopped drooling over these men after reading this book, I can compose myself to write this review.

Caleb Blackstone drew me in with his story. Raine Miller gave us such an enticing story of Caleb Blackstone and Brooke Casterley.

Brooke is such a strong heroine and I felt that she was the prefect balance to Caleb.

Their story is filled with love, humor, and sexy moments that will leave you breathless. It's a classic Raine Miller style that I have enjoyed and always look forward to reading. Yes Cherries were Swooning all over the place because the Blackstone men know how to romance the ladies.

Cinderella story with a fun HEA, love a great book with no cliffhanger and some serious romance. Slow burn but a swoon worthy romance!
