Despite it being the abridged version, i felt like I wasn't missing too much of the story. Makes me want to start my own tribe of reckless individuals

I really enjoyed reading the book. I thought the story was very interesting and different from everything I’ve ever read before. It surprised me all the time, and I could never guess what would happen next. It was thrilling and exciting, and I had a hard time putting the book down, I wanted to keep reading.
My favourite part of the book was when Legs was in Red Bank, the correction facility. In this part you got to know a lot about Legs’ feelings and personality. I grew very fond of Legs when reading this part. She is an amazing character that is particularly developed. What I miss is better descriptions of the other Foxfire members, the book is mostly about Legs and you don’t get to know the other characters that well, which is a shame. Maddy is the teller of the story, so you get to know about her feelings and experiences, but I would still have liked to know more about her.

The book is written in a very special way. Oates often ignores proper grammar, and sometimes writes long sentences without full stops, and instead uses commas. This gives the feeling as if the book was told to you by Maddy herself. At first, I thought the book was hard to read, because of the way it is written. Later, I got used to the style of the writing, and found it rather beautiful, and strong. There is no doubt that the author is very good with words, but I don’t think her style of writing is to everybody’s liking.
