i understand that the ending is like supposed to wrap it all together but. I hate the SPOILER…. Cheating trope. I was hoping it wasn’t coming then it came and they didn’t end up together. Which I was fine with bc I didn’t like harry. And the cheating trope can never be redeemed in my eyes. I was just expecting a romcom and wasn’t in the mood for anything like this.

I thought the ending in this book was perfect even though a lot of people were disappointed with it. It just clarified that romance isn't always like the movies and a kiss and kind gesture aren't always enough.
I'm glad this book beat the stereotypes we see in the movies and read about in books. I'd love to read about these characters again in the future so pretty please Holly work your magic!

Is that how hearts work? Is love just a parasite that jumps bodies? It always exists, you always have to yearn for someone, and the only way to get over somebody is to obsess about someone else?

I liked how It Only Happens in the Movies essentially focused on rewriting the notion of romantic comedies and the "happy ever afters" we typically expect out of them.

For a little bit, I was nervous with what ending Audrey would choose but I'm happy to report she took the more logical approach.

TW: suicide attempt/ideation, alcoholism, depression, cheating

4.5 stars. I really ended up liking this book. I was hesitant at the start but I really ended up liking it. I loved all the film aspects and working in a movie theater. I loved the family aspect, I think it was tied in just right. I cried when she confronted her dad, that really hit home. I love that she let Harry go in the end.
