I think I liked the playlist and afterword about violence as much as the story.

The first four issues were promising but the last failed to reach expectations.

This is a tough one for me. "I want to like it more than I do" applies for me here. Morally, the protagonists are so far from my center that I have a hard time rooting/relating to them. Still a worthwhile read I think.

Weird (but entertaining) comic, that's sort of a mash-up of Bonnie and Clyde (or those teenagers the media dubbed Teen Bonnie and Clyde a few years ago), X-Men, some generic crime syndicate and, I dunno what else. It's very blood soaked and has a great soundtrack but definitely not for every reader.

This is the coolest comic I've read in years.

Well...that escalated quickly. This book is violent and bloody, but it doesn't ever feel gratuitous or over the top. Duncan & Maddie make some TERRIBLE life choices, though, and I kind of want to shake them both.
SpoilerI'm also not sure why they didn't try to escape together each time one of them escaped at the end. It felt weird to me that Maddie escapes and Duncan stays and then HE escapes and she stays.

I also really appreciated the author note at the end about how they were very intentional about making sure that all the violence and poor decisions had consequences for the teens.

Overall, I thought this was a well written, beautifully drawn book that does a good job introducing these characters and the world they live in. I want to know where Maddie goes from here!

From the creator of 4 Kids Walk into a Bank... my typical author binge. This one bordered on too comic book/super power and was a bit meh compared to his newest.

Not bad, but damn did Duncan get on my LAST NERVE. Madison was cool and kept her shit together so that was redemptive. Also the last page with the short short essay on "selling violence as entertainment" was dope, nice work Black Mask and nice work Matt Pizzolo

The teenager with powers in over their head is futile ground for comix. And I've several over the past few years, including the excellent Ms. Marvel and Paper Girls. Yet my favorite is We Can Never Go Home Again. With truly snappy dialogue, these teens are way over their heads and keep making the bad decisions that you'd make if you were in high school. Part teen romance, social comedy, coming of age story, crime caper gone wrong, and science fiction. If I have any criticism is that the plot moves too quickly. Particularly since there are no more volumes! (Please write more).
