I feel it was a bad idea to read book that makes you think about death on the one year anniversary of the full scale war in my country 😬

But in general it rather entertaining and interesting. Great choice for a quick weekend reading.

Very interesting to learn about death rituals and practices in other cultures. I think the book is successful in making the reader stop and reflect upon current American practices surrounding death and grief. I don't think I enjoyed this book nearly as much as Smoke Gets in Your Eyes because this book is less personal, but that makes sense given that the first book is more memoir with bits of science and history added in, while From Here to Eternity is mainly focused on the cultural practices with very small bits of the author's personal perspective of witnessing and being a part of those practices.

I’ve been following Caitlyn Doughty for years and I’ve enjoyed everything I’ve read by her so far, this is no exception. She explores death and funeral practices in various places around the world with respect, insight, and her signature humor. Fans of Doughty’s YouTube series Ask A Mortician will see her distinctive voice seeping through the pages. However, this book might not be suitable for the squeamish, death is on every page and discussed matter of factly through the death positivity lens.

Informative, humane and amusing (dark humor-ish) at points; preachy with a tinge of exoticism at others. I still have thanatophobia.
