So relieved to see I'm not the only one who hated this with a passion. Bigoted drivel, just throw it in the garbage and spare future generations from the misery of encountering this in print. Proof of evil publishers that anyone let this go to market. I want to write a letter to my local public library to have all of this author's books trashed. Oof.
You know, I loved this book when I was a kid.  The world of Xanth is so creative and unique, and it sparked a fascination in me for older fantasy/Sci-Fi.
But holy cow, this might be the most misogynistic book I’ve ever seen.
Whenever a woman is introduced, or mentioned at all, her physical attractiveness is used as a metric for judging her character.  While there’s an attempt to frame the morals of the story as “it doesn’t matter what you look like, it’s all about who you are,” it doesn’t follow through at all.  A frankly ludicrous amount of female objectification and thinly veiled peeks into the author’s emotional trauma with women.
